All-female Shakespeare play teaches students about violence prevention

Could the powerful words of William Shakespeare end violence in schools? Since 2011, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF) and -Boulder’s Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV) have worked together to present annual school tours, where CSF actors perform a truncated Shakespeare play and lead workshops to discuss bullying, violence and unhealthy relationships in the Bard’s writing.

Sommers-Bausch Observatory to hold ‘Messier marathon’ stargazing event on April 1

Nebulas and distant galaxies will be in the telescope sights at the Sommers-Bausch Observatory on Friday night as University of Colorado Boulder students scan the sky for over 100 deep space objects known collectively as the “Messier catalogue.”

App, evening sessions among new features of -Boulder’s Conference on World Affairs

The University of Colorado Boulder’s 68th annual Conference on World Affairs, a week of ideas and discussion on every topic imaginable, kicks off Monday. Among the day’s events are a noon plenary address by Robert Inglis on how free enterprise can solve climate change and the colorful flag procession at 6:30 p.m. on the Norlin Quadrangle. This year’s conference features 200 diverse panels, plenaries and performances. Student and community volunteers assembled the thought-provoking program, inviting speakers from around the world to this year’s event.

Vice President Joe Biden will visit -Boulder next week to deliver a speech on the importance of preventing sexual assault on college campuses across the country. The Office of the Vice President chose to visit -Boulder due to our strong efforts to support the “It’s On Us” campaign denouncing sexual violence and encouraging bystanders to be more effective in prevention efforts.

This year’s performances take place April 15-17 and feature evocative, original work by dance professors Erika Randall and Donna Mejia, lecturer Larry Southall, alumna Megan Odom and Roser Guest Artist Faye Driscoll.

Dalai Lama reschedules visit to -Boulder for June 23

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will visit the University of Colorado Boulder June 23 after health issues derailed a previous visit scheduled last October, -Boulder student and local Tibetan leaders announced today. Tickets are not yet available for sale. Details will be announced in coming months on this University of Colorado event website.
