Investigator Responsibilities

This is the statement any Principal Investigator signs before an animal protocol is approved:

  1. I certify that I have determined that the research proposed in my animal protocol is not unnecessarily duplicative of previously reported research.
  2. I certify that all individuals working on my protocol are participating in the institution’s occupational health and safety program.
  3. I certify that the individuals listed in my animal protocols are authorized to conduct procedures involving animals under this protocol, have attended the Basic IA¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäC training course at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder and have received or it is scheduled that they will receive further training to demonstrate proficiency in required procedures. In addition, I certify that all personnel having direct animal contact, including myself, have been trained in humane and scientifically acceptable procedures in animal handling, administration of anesthetics, analgesics, and euthanasia to be used in this project. 
  4. I certify that I have reviewed the pertinent scientific literature and the sources and/or databases and have found no valid alternative to any procedures described herein which may cause more than momentary pain or distress, whether it is relieved or not.
  5. I certify that I will obtain approval from the IA¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäC before initiating any significant changes in this study through an Addendum.
  6. I certify that I will notify the IA¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäC regarding any unexpected study results that impact the animals. Any unanticipated pain or distress, morbidity or mortality will be reported to the attending veterinarian and the IA¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäC (see statement below).
  7. I understand it is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator to ensure the safe and ethical conduct of all research conducted under this protocol, and to assure that all research is carried out following federal, state, local, and ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder policies governing animal research.
