Fall 2020
Created by graduate students Brendan Heffernan and Peter Riley, this video was viewed by students in a third-grade science class in High Peaks Elementary School, who then participated in a discussion about it with Dr. Gopinath and Riley.
Summer 2018
Created in partnership with Skinner Middle School in Denver. The students learned about interferometers in a hands-on unit (interferometers and instruction from Gopinath group) and toured the lab.
February 2017
Juliet, her grad students, the Women in ECEE group, and the OSA student chapter all brought science demos and toys that engaged children and adults alike. More than 2,500 people attended the event.

Juliet participated in the conference, running the "Getting into Grad School Worshop" (pictured above), particpating the Science Cafe, and offering lab tours.

A select group of students from the Buckley Institute of Technolgy visited the Gopinath lab to learn about short pulse lasers, materials, holography and interference.
July 2015
A select group of 44 first-year students attended this program before the fall semester of their first year. Juliet gave a talk to get them excited about electrical engineering, optics and photonics. As part of the program, she gave a demo on orbital angular momentum.

We had a visit from high school students who were enrolled in a six-week Science Discovery STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) program to do a project incorporating both art and science.

Juliet served as a faculty advisor for a summer course on electromagnetism taught by two graduate students. The course was focused on 13- to 17-year-olds, and included a group of students from the Trinidad Upward Bound program. The students learned about the components to be developed for our NSF brain imaging project, through the NSF IDBR program.

Juliet served as a faculty advisor for a summer course on electromagnetism taught by two graduate students. The course was focused on 13- to 17-year-olds, and included a group of students from the Trinidad Upward Bound program.
Juliet taught a weeklong course for underrepresented students focused on electromagnetism. The course was supported by a grant from the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Diversity and Excellence office. The goals of this program were to heighten students interest in science and technology, expose them to current optics research on the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä campus, and promote interest and participation in STEM fields.

Women in ECEE has several major goals including: creating a community atmosphere among ECEE students, providing students with role models, facilitating interaction between graduate and undergraduate students, and promoting professional and technical development of the students.
