Bachelor’s–Accelerated Master’s Program

The Bachelor’s–Accelerated Master’s (BAM) degree program offers currently enrolled Boulder undergraduate students the opportunity to receive a bachelor’s and master’s degree in a shorter period of time. You will receive the bachelor’s degree first, but begin taking graduate coursework as an undergraduate (typically in your junior year). Because some courses are allowed to double count for both the bachelor’s and  master’s degrees, you will earn a master’s degree in less time and at a lower cost than if you were to enroll in a stand-alone master’s degree program after completion of your baccalaureate degree. In addition, staying at Boulder to pursue a bachelor’s–accelerated master’s program enables you to continue working with your established faculty mentors.

Our Program:

  • BS in Environmental Engineering plus an MS in Environmental Engineering, MS in Civil Engineering, or MS in Mechanical Engineering

Admissions Requirements

In order to gain admission to the BAM program to earn your MS degree in either EVEN or CVEN, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the BAM program in Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering
  • Have no MAPS deficiencies  - required for students beginning college career before Fall 2023
    • ** For students beginning college career in or after Fall 2023, MAPS is no longer required
  • Have at least junior class standing and completed CVEN 3414 Fundamentals of Engineering

In order to gain admission to theBAM program to earn your MS degree MCEN you must have the following criteria

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher for the BAM program in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have completed the following courses with a C grade or higher at the time of admission:
    • APPM 2360 (or MATH 2130/3430) Differential Equations with Linear Algebra
    • Thermodynamics ( CHEN 3320 Chem Engin Thermo, EVEN 3012 Thermodynamics 1, GEEN 3852 Thermo for Engineers, MCEN 3012 Thermodynamics only)
    • Fluid Mechanics

Program Requirements

You may take up to and including 12 hours while in the undergraduate program which can later be used toward the master’s degree. However, only 6 credits may be double counted toward the bachelor’s and master’s degree. You must apply to graduate with the bachelor’s degree and apply to continue with the master’s degree early in the semester in which the undergraduate requirements will be completed.

NOTE: Students who were admitted prior to July 2019 follow a concurrent Bachelor's/Master's structure (see below), and the two degrees are awarded simultaneously when requirements for both degrees are met.
