Committees & Decision-making Teams

Purpose

The administrative Leadership Team consists of the Dean, Associate Deans, and the directors of finance & HR and special programs. The team meets on Mondays during the academic year to address day-to-day operations, governance, and planning.

Purpose

The Dean’s Advisory Council (DAC) provides advice to the Dean regarding programs, personnel, and budgetary processes. They sometimes serve as the first level of faculty review before proposals are brought to the full faculty at Faculty Meetings. Its membership includes all associate deans, program area chairs, center directors and other administrative staff at the discretion of the Dean.

Purpose

The Awards Committee includes one faculty member from each program area and is chaired by the Associate Dean for Students. This committee meets twice per year in the spring semester to award Miramontes Doctoral Fellowships and graduation honors.

Note: Faculty and professional award nominations are administered by Joe Polman, associate dean for research. 

Purpose

The School of Education Curriculum Committee is the recommending body for curricular matters for the faculty of the School of Education. The Committee is responsible for reviewing and either rejecting or recommending and advancing to the SOE faculty for a vote on all proposals relating to SOE curriculum.

Purpose

The Governance Committee is chaired by the Faculty Chair and includes all members of the Dean’s Advisory Committee minus the Dean.

Promotion, Tenure and Reappointment committees review tenure track faculty promotion, tenure and reappointment materials and provide an evaluation of the faculty candidate on behalf of the Primary Unit. Their letter becomes a part of the dossier that is sent to Faculty Affairs. The committees are unique to each candidate and are appointed from the tenure-track faculty.

Purpose

The Merit Review Committee advises the Dean on salary increases for tenure-track faculty by reviewing materials submitted by the faculty, and by participating in development of merit rankings and rationale. The committee assigns merit ratings and makes decisions about the range of salary increases. They also advise on post tenure review cases. The committee is elected by the tenure track faculty and consists of three tenured faculty and one assistant professor.

Purpose

The Salary Equity and Grievance Committee reviews and addresses any tenure track faculty salary equity grievances. The committee is elected by the tenure track faculty and consists of three tenured faculty and one assistant professor.
