The Virgil Awards

CINE's Student Awards for Excellence in Filmmaking

The Virgil Awards are designed to encourage excellence in filmmaking and help defray some of the expenses required to pursue a degree in film production. The Virgil Awards are drawn from a University of Colorado Foundation fund set up in the early 1990s by Virgil Grillo (1938-1994), the founder and former Director of the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Film Studies Program, whose dedication and vision helped shepherd Film Studies from its modest beginnings in the 1970s to an undergraduate program with some 600 students.

Students can submit films from Spring 2023, Fall 2023, or Spring 2024 for 10 categories and up to $1,000 in awards. The deadline for the 2024 Virgil Awards has passed. Nominees are posted here. Winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony.

We encourage you to attend the Award Ceremony on May 3rd. 5:00pm reception in the VAC Courtyard with appetizers and mingleing. Ceremony begins at 6:30pm. Filmmaker will be in attendance.
