Teaching Faculty

The Biomedical Engineering (BME) program at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time Teaching Faculty position. This role will play a vital role in delivering engaging, high-quality instruction to students with a strong biomedical background.

This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Teaching Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Teaching Professor and Teaching Professor ranks.

Temporary Faculty and Lecturers

Each semester the Biomedical Engineering Program (BME) seeks Lecturers to teach a variety of courses to engineers and technical professionals in the area of Biomedical Engineering. These teaching roles are filled on an as-needed basis semester to semester.

The title of Lecturer is given to individuals who teach on a course-by-course basis. Lecturers generally teach a particular course or courses for which they qualified for and may have graduate degrees and/or advanced experience in their profession or field of expertise. Ìý

Compensation ranges from $1,000 - $11,000 per course, depending on the teaching assignment, instructor qualifications, and what semester the course is being taught.

Examples of courses that lecturers have taught in our program include:Ìý

  • : Introduction to Biomedical Engineering
  • : Biomedical Engineering Capstone Design I
  • : Biomedical Engineering Capstone Design II
  • : Anatomy and Physiology for Biomedical Engineering

That said, needs fluctuate substantially from semester-to-semester. Lecturer positions are not permanent employees and are hired on a semester-by-semester basis. This position is eligible for employee sick leave earned monthly on a prorated basis. Student Positions - Course Assistants

Each semester the Biomedical Engineering Program seeksÌýCourse Assistants (CAs) to support faculty in BMENÌýclasses (1000, 1025, 2000, 2010, 2100, 3010, 3030, 4010/4020, 4117). CAs work 1-10 hours per week depending on their availability and the course needs. These student hourly roles are filled on an as-needed basis each semester.Ìý

Becoming a CA is a great way to:

  • Solidify your understanding of an academic subject
  • Get to know professors (helpful when looking for recommendations)
  • Improve your communication and leadership skills
  • Help your fellow students and professors
  • Earn $$$

CA tasks depend on the course and instructor but usually involve some mix of the following:

  • Lead office hours, help sessions, and/or recitations
  • Proctor exams and quizzes
  • Assist with grading assignments
  • Assist with lab activities
  • Tutoring students in the course

Qualifications

  • Position preference is given to BME majors and masterÌýstudents, who have prevoiusly taken and succeeded in the course in which they wish to be a CA or can demonstrate their subject area knowledge
