IUT Drop Application Requirements
If you are enrolled in a double degree program, an Intra-University Transfer (IUT) Drop Application can allow you to keep one and drop one of your current majors in two different colleges/schools/programs. The date and term you decide to drop your double degree may impact your tuition charges and graduation timeline. Seniors applying for an IUT Drop after the deadline for their graduation term, should work with their academic advisor and submit an IUT Drop Application for any program they will not complete before graduation. Complete the by the IUT Deadline corresponding to your desired term of enrollment by logging into the IUT Application with your Boulder credentials. The IUT Application cannot be saved or accessed after submission. If you have trouble accessing the IUT Application, please refer to the IUT Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) webpage or email IUT@colorado.edu.
IUT Deadlines
Please review the Intra-University Transfer dates and deadlines by term of admission and your intended IUT college/school/program. It is strongly recommended that you apply by the IUT Registration Access(Priority Consideration) Deadlines (October 1st and March 1st), for the opportunity to enroll in restricted courses (when available), and for full consideration of your IUT Application.IUT admission is not guaranteed and varies by college/school/program depending on space availability and IUT Requirements.
You should apply for an IUT during the same semester you meet (or will meet) the IUT Requirements:
- If you meet (or will meet) the IUT Requirements by the end of the Fall term, apply by the October 1st Registration Access (Priority Consideration) Deadline for Spring Admission.
- If you meet (or will meet) the IUT Requirements by the end of the Spring term, apply by the March 1st Registration Access (Priority Consideration) Deadline for Summer Admission. You are not required to enroll in summer coursework.
- If you meet (or will meet) the IUT Requirements by the end of the Summer term, apply as soon as possible for Fall Admission. Please note Fall Admission may not be available for colleges/schools/programs with space limitations

When you submit your , a confirmation landing webpage will open. You should receive a confirmation email to your @colorado.edu email with an timeline of when your IUT Application will be processed. You will continue to receive IUT Application status updates through your Boulder email account throughout the IUT process. Please continue to check your @colorado email regularly. IUT Application processing times vary, please do not resubmit your IUT Application unless directed.
If you do not see the confirmation page and/or do not receive a confirmation email, there may have been an error with your submission. If you have questions, please refer to the IUT Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) webpage or email IUT@colorado.edu.
IUT Application Status Definitions
There are four main IUT Application statuses for the IUT process. Please refer to the following definitions for additional information and check your @colorado email regularlly for IUT Application status updates.
Accepted
"Accepted" is an IUT Application status granting admission into a student’s intended college, school, or program.
- “Accepted” eligibility is determined on a space-available basis for students who:
- Apply by the IUT Registration Access (Priority Consideration) Deadline or the IUT Final Deadline
- Meet all IUT course/grade/GPA requirements
On Track
"On Track" is an IUT Application status that allows eligible prospective IUT students, course registration for major/college/school/program restricted courses (when available) during students' assigned registration windows.
- “On Track” eligibility is determined on a space-available basis to students who:
- Apply by the IUT Registration Access (Priority Consideration) Deadline
- Meet all On Track requirements and/or other IUT course/grade/GPA requirements
- Could complete the balance of their required IUT coursework by the end of the semester
- “On Track” IUT Applications are reviewed at the end of the semester, after grades officially post to transcripts:
- Students who continue to meet all IUT requirements, will have their IUT Application status changed to “Accepted” at the end of the semester.
- Students who do not meet all IUT requirements, will have their IUT Application status changed to “Denied” at the end of the semester, and will be updated by their college/school/program if they will be removed from restricted courses.
- Please note "On Track" application status is not available for the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Music, Program in Exploratory Studies, and the School of Education.
Deferred
"Deferred" is an IUT Application status indicating a student’s IUT Application will be held for review by their intended college, school, or program until after grades officially post to transcripts at the end of the semester. “Deferred” IUT Applications will not be eligible for the on-time course registration for major/college/school/program restricted courses.
- “Deferred” status is determined on a space-available basis to students who meet one or all of the following conditions:
- Apply after the IUT Registration Access (Priority Consideration) Deadline, but before the IUT Final Deadline
- Do not currently meet the "On Track" or “Accepted” eligibility criteria but might by the end of the current semester
- Apply for a college, school, or program that no longer has available space
Denied
"Denied" is an IUT Application status declining admission into a student’s intended college, school, or program. Students who receive a “Denied” IUT Application status may apply for a future semester as long as they remain eligible for their intended IUT college, school, or program.
- “Denied” status is determined on a space-available basis to students who meet one or all of the following conditions:
- Apply after the IUT Final Deadline for their intended IUT college, school, or program
- Does not (or will not) meet all IUT course/grade/GPA requirements by the end of the semester
- Apply for a college, school, or program that no longer has available space
Review Your Final IUT Application Decision

You can receive an admission decision any time after you submit an . If you were granted "On Track" or "Deferred" status at the time of submission, make sure to check back after grades are submitted for the term, to receive your final admissions decision of "Accepted" or "Denied."
- If you were admitted: Congratulations. Your new college/school/program will inform you of next steps and help you plan future semesters.
- Please continue to meet with your current assigned academic advisor for petitions, even though your major change is reflected in Buff Portal and Buff Portal Advising.
- If you were denied: There are lots of options at the University of Colorado Boulder. Reach out to your current academic advisor to discuss next steps or a parallel degree plan.
