The Fire

“The Fire is about the Black Lives Matter movement, and the persisting issue of racism in America. The visual subject matter is from the protests in June 2020, however, it is meant to address the metaphorical fire that has been burning for much longer. This issue is not isolated and it is not over. The violence didn’t start in June. The white banner drawn across the center is a call to action for white people, like myself, to take responsibility for silencing people of color and for inciting this violence, through intentional and unintentional ways. This piece is meant to create discomfort, to cause its viewers to think about this issue and recognize the responsibility that must be taken.” Student Arts Program official selection 2021. Located on the third floor, near room 358.
