With today's emphasis on undergraduate teaching, college administrators realize that's not enough. They recognize teaching as an art that can be studied and improved.

The Department of Housing at the University of Colorado at Boulder will hold its annual "Global Jam: A Celebration of Diversity" on Sept. 3 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Farrand Field. Global Jam is a diversity program held annually by the Housing Department and showcases ethnic foods from people and places around the world. This year's menu will include African, Native American, Polynesian and Middle Eastern food. Meals are planned and prepared by the department's dining services.

Byyny and the Boulder Public Library will sponsor a series of Wednesday evening seminars that will bring cutting-edge ideas from the business world to the Boulder community. The lectures will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, Oct. 7 and Nov. 4 at the Boulder Public Library's main auditorium. Each program will be preceded by refreshments with Chancellor Byyny at 6:30 p.m. The Chancellor's Business Community Lecture Series will feature three timely topics and four energetic presenters from the College of Business and Administration.

Wardenburg Health Center at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä-Boulder has opened its first optometry clinic to provide students with specialty eye-care services. "We feel it's going to be extremely popular because optometry is a service in high demand," said Barbara Brandt, a nurse at Wardenburg Health Center. Services offered at the Wardenburg optometry clinic will include comprehensive eye exams for all ages, contact lens fitting, treatment of glaucoma, ocular trauma and eye infections, and consultation for laser refractive surgery.

The public is invited to a western showdown between humans and prairie dogs for open land. Susan Jones, veterinarian and assistant professor of history at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will discuss the evolution of perceptions about the prairie dog in a Sept. 3 lecture sponsored by the Center of the American West titled "Prairie Dogs -- Pets of Pests? The Historical Fortunes of a Native Western Species." The event, free and open to the public, will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in room 235 of the University Memorial Center.
