抖阴旅行射-Boulder鈥檚 new and renovated residence halls showcase new academic program, sustainability

The University of Colorado Boulder鈥檚 newest residence hall, Kittredge Central, is welcoming students this week for the first time, 53 of whom are engineering students and will be immersed in Spanish through the building鈥檚 new Residential Academic Program, or RAP. Also, the nearby Kittredge West residence hall is reopening this week after being unoccupied last school year while renovations were underway. Both buildings comprise a number of 鈥済reen鈥 features to improve water and energy efficiency and to reduce the campus鈥檚 carbon footprint.

The Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN, or MAVEN, mission to Mars will carry just over 1,100 haiku, along with thousands of names, on its journey to the red planet. The haiku were part of a contest, sponsored by the University of Colorado Boulder, asking the public to submit haiku poetry relating to NASA鈥檚 upcoming MAVEN mission to Mars.

Ryan Chreist named 抖阴旅行射-Boulder assistant vice chancellor for alumni relations

The University of Colorado Boulder today announced that Ryan Chreist has been named assistant vice chancellor for alumni relations. Chreist, who most recently served as the director of recruitment, operations and system integration for the 抖阴旅行射-Boulder Office of Admissions, starts this week.

Last July, something unprecedented in the 34-year satellite record happened: 98 percent of the Greenland Ice Sheet鈥檚 surface melted, compared to roughly 50 percent during an average summer. Snow that usually stays frozen and dry turned wet with melt water. Research led by the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences now shows last summer鈥檚 extreme melt could soon be the new normal.

The University of Colorado Boulder has been ranked No. 14 in the world on the scholarly impact of its journal publications, according to an analysis by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands. The Leiden Ranking analyzed the 500 universities with the largest number of publications recorded in Web of Science, a database of articles published in more than 12,000 journals that is maintained by Thomson Reuters.
