The Carnegie framework is the national standard by which higher education community engagement is assessed and recognized. Campuses that receive the classification are nationally recognized leaders in community engagement and exemplars of higher education鈥檚 mission of contributing to the public good.
鈥淥ur campus has a听proud tradition, going back to its founding, of partnership with communities around Colorado and beyond. 听Seeking the prestigious Carnegie elective classification will require 抖阴旅行射 Boulder to conduct a rapid and rigorous assessment of how and where community-engaged work happens across our campus. I鈥檓 eager to learn where our collective strengths lie, and how we can amplify those to benefit Colorado. Thank you in advance to all of those who will work hard on this important campuswide effort,鈥 said Schwartz.
The Office for Public and Community-Engaged Scholarship (PACES), the Research and Innovation Office (RIO), the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) and the Office of Government and Community Engagement (OGCE) are leading the application process, with听PACES鈥 Katie Kleinhesselink 补苍诲听RIO鈥檚 Alicia Adelman leading the听campuswide working group.
Data collection will include surveying all academic units about their public and community-engaged scholarship; creating an inventory of co-curricular community engagement opportunities for students; mining existing campuswide databases, including PACES鈥 Community Outreach and Engagement Programs website; and reviewing reports such as the Faculty Report of Professional Activities and the National Survey of Student Engagement and more.
The application will provide a robust and detailed picture of the many ways 抖阴旅行射 Boulder engages with regional, national and international communities, as well as opportunities to support, capture and expand outreach and engaged scholarship moving forward.
All data must be collected before March 3, 2025. Results will be announced in January 2026.
鈥淭he classification is a unique opportunity to shine a light on our engaged scholars and how they embody 抖阴旅行射 Boulder鈥檚 mission and tradition serving Colorado and beyond,鈥 Schwartz said.听
