The Leadership Studies Minor (LSM) enables you to develop as a leader. They seek students who are curious about what the academic research says about leadership and who want to practice leadership as a student.
Leadership Through Wilderness course
- Open to all Leadership Studies Minor candidates
- Enroll in LEAD 4000-060 for spring 2021
- Online 9:35–10:50 a.m.Tuesday/Thursday
Leadville trip March 25–28
- Spend three nights and four days learning technical wilderness skills and real-world leadership lessons with expert mentors and guides provided by Colorado Outward Bound School of the Rockies.
- Additional course fee (TBD) covers all lodging, meals, access fees, gear and guide requirements.
You might not think of yourself as a “leader” right now, but in pursuing the LSM, you will learn new ways to think about leadership and discover your own leadership strengths. This includes learning skills such as self-awareness, managing conflict, speaking in public and analyzing complex problems. You will also gain knowledge about collaborative and inclusive leadership, ethical decision-makingand emotional intelligence.
The LSM, housed in the School of Education and Engage, is available to Boulder students from all majors and colleges through a partnership with the Center for Leadership.
Wilderness course for minor students
For spring 2021, the Center for Leadership and LSM is proud to offer a one-of-a-kind immersive wilderness experiential course (LEAD 4000-060, 4 credits). The class will meet virtually Tuesday/Thursday from 9:35 to 10:50 a.m. throughout the semester, with an Outward Bound trip scheduled for March 25–28 in Leadville, Colorado. There is an additional course fee for the wilderness trip,but student enrichment scholarships are available.
The Center for Leadership was founded in fall 2020 under the direction of Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano. The center unites 23 leadership programs across campus to support programming and research. It supports a campuswide culture of leadership education and will elevate Boulder as a nationally recognized model for leadership development, including dedicated experiential education opportunitiessuch as this new leadership capstone course.
