Ava Berrier, who is from Pueblo West, Colorado, is graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in integrative physiology.

During her time at Boulder, she participated in the Honors LEAD Scholar Program and served as the chair of the Honors Student Advisory Board in the College of Arts and Sciences. She was also vice president of the integrative physiology Biostatistics Club and a statistics teaching assistant.Last summer, she studied abroad in Scandinavia and was a Gilman Scholarship recipient.

Currently, she works as a medical scribe for the Platte Valley Medical Center. She wrote her honors thesis on melatonin’s effects on tumor regression, treatment side effects, and quality of life in advanced cancer patients. Berrier plans to apply to medical school but, before then, will pursue a biomedical sciences master’s degree next fall at the University of Denver.

“As a first-generation student, I am honored to be graduating from Boulder,” Berrier said. “It represents being one step closer to attending medical school.”
