The at Boulder have become a member of HathiTrust, a global partnership of major research institutions and libraries working toward its mission to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible.
The University Libraries hold the largest collection in the Rocky Mountain region, with more than 12 million books, periodicals, government publications, audiovisual materials, microforms, maps, manuscripts, papers and computer-based resources.
Ten years after its founding, HathiTrust holds the largest set of digitized books managed by the academic, research and library community, which offers an unprecedented opportunity to oversee the cultural record through increasingly interdependent work that develops capacity and sparks innovation. “Hathi” is the Hindi word for elephant, signifying a prodigious memory.

Members have contributed more than 16 million volumes to the digital library, digitized from their library collections through a number of means, including Google and Internet Archive digitization and in-house initiatives. More than sixmillion of the contributed volumes are in the public domain and freely available online.
With a growing membership of more than 140 members, HathiTrust serves a dual role. First, it is a trusted repository that guarantees the long-term preservation of the materials it holds. Second, as a service for members and the public good, HathiTrust offers access to the digital collections, except for copyrighted works. authentication is required to download whole books.
