The spring semester can bring a different process of adjustment for students, for many different reasons.
Some students will be new to Boulder entirely this semester and will be adjusting to campus and college life. Some students may have reservations about a new semester, particularly if they didn’t do well academically last semester. Some students may also be experiencing homesickness as they return to campus after being home for winter break.
If you notice a student exhibiting signs of distress, struggling academicallyor appearing withdrawn, sullen, upset or depressed, consider referring the student to Student Support & Case Management Services (SSCM), whichsupports students throughout their college career in order to achieve their academic and co-curricular goals.
As students work through the adjustment process, there are resources to help them establish a routine, start out the semester strongand develop skills to succeed this semester. Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) offers two workshops for students:
Getting It Done
This is a free three-week sequential workshop that supports students in developing skills to overcome low motivation and procrastination.
- Students learn skills and ways of working with their mind to complete tasks and move forward.
- Students can sign up by calling the CAPS office at 303-492-2277.
Bounce Back
This is a free 10-week long program catered towardstudents who are on or near academic alert, academic probation or academic recovery. The program is facilitated by a CAPS staff member with support from a peer educator.
- Through Bounce Back, students develop time-management skills, learn how to cope with test anxiety and adopt effective study strategies in a supportive group setting.
- Students can join at any time.
