After more than 14 years of dedicated service to ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder, Kambiz Khalili, associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs, will be moving on to a new position as the associate vice president for Student Life at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Khalili has served many roles at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder, starting in 2003 as the director of dining with Housing & Dining Services (HDS), a department where he served in other leadership roles through 2016, including as the department’s executive director.
¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder Today sat down with Kambiz to ask him a few questions about his time on campus, the work and legacy he leaves behind and what he looks forward to offering Michigan.
You’ve held different leadership positions at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder, mostly in auxiliary services. What are you reflecting on as you move into a new role at a new university?
Working at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder has been a great experience. There have been many opportunities to learn and work with talented people who have helped me build quality programs and services that make a difference to our students.
What are some of the projects or endeavors you have worked on at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder that may help inform your new role at Michigan?
In my new role at the University of Michigan, I will be expanding on my current responsibilities with auxiliary services. This new position requires my oversight on University Housing and Michigan Dining programs, multiple recreation centers and student unions, as well as the Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs program.
I feel that my experience working on various building projects with ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder's Housing & Dining Services, including the building of the C4C and Village Center, as well as the renovations we made in the Kittredge area, will be useful for future growth at Michigan. I’d also like to take the knowledge I’ve gained from our sustainability efforts at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder and share that. But, more than anything, I hope the work I’ve done in Student Affairs here and what I’ve learned will help me build a bridge—a connection—between myself and the students at Michigan.

What are some of the projects you worked on at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder that you are most proud of?
Any of the projects I’ve worked on were certainly a collaborative effort by many people and departments. But, I can look back and be proud of my involvement and leadership in the concepts and designs of the C4C and Village Center constructions and Kittredge renovations. Still, I will be most fond of the relationships I’ve built and cherished friendships I’ve made among many of ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder’s staff. I wish them all the best. Go Buffs!
