Time is one of the most precious commodities we have. The Office of Faculty Affairs, in an effort to promote the accomplishments of the faculty and look for ways to save time, has launched ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder Elements (¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE) and created a new version of the Faculty Report of Professional Activities (FRPA).Ìý

¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE, a data hub for faculty work, draws from a large number of data sources to provide accurate bibliographic data on much of the faculty’s published work; Faculty Affairs curated and uploaded additional items from the CVs of the faculty. Currently, there are 85,000 unique publications by ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä faculty in ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE. Faculty Affairs worked with arts units to create a template to enter creative works in ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE to ensure they have the same data status as published items. Once faculty have claimed their work via ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE, with a simple click of a button, faculty can send their publication data from ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE to their FRPA, to ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Experts, our outward looking research profiles of the faculty, and to Altmetric, a new tool that measures the response to faculty work in traditional and social media channels.

Previously, faculty had to cut and paste from their vitae all their publications. Now they just claim them in ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE and import them to the new FRPA.Ìý The Provost has asked academic offices to find ways to save faculty time, and once everyone is familiar with this system, it will save significant amounts of effort across the more than 1800 individuals who fill out FRPAs. Departments and the faculty member can also use the exportable ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäBE publication list for web publishing needs or for grant reporting.Ìý

These new tools allow us to know more about the faculty’s scholarly and creative work and to publicize these important accomplishments. I want to thank the Faculty Information System (FIS) team and particularly the Director of FIS, Liz Tomich, for all their great work.
