On Wednesday, March 15,Ìýthe is hosting filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas at the University Memorial CenterÌýto speak onÌýthe struggles of undocumented immigrants in today’s America.
In June 2011, The New York Times published an essay in which Jose revealed and chronicled his life in America as an undocumented immigrant. He has also appeared on the cover of TIME magazine with fellow undocumented immigrants as part of a follow-up cover story of his life, as well asÌývarious television and radio programs such as The Colbert Report, Good Morning AmericaÌý²¹²Ô»å The O’Reilly Factor.

Vargas strives to bring a discussion about immigration and citizenship in America andÌýhas received multiple accolades—including aÌýpublic service award from the National Council of La Raza (the largest Latino-advocacy organization in the U.S.)Ìý²¹²Ô»å the Freedom to Write Award from PEN Center USA.
At the University of Colorado Boulder, Vargas will speak about his experience as an undocumented immigrant in America and immigration reform activist, exploring one of the most divisive questions facing our country today: How do you define American?
The Cultural Events BoardÌýmission is to provide programming that brings culture, diversity and social awareness to the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder campus; and Vargas is truly representative of thisÌýmission.
