The current political season features candidates on both the Republican and Democratic tickets who have the highest negative ratings of any candidate in recent history. And the election is occurring in a time of increased polarization in the country, increasingly pointed coverage by the media and a steady stream of negative advertising. So what does all of this mean for the candidate who wins in November? And what are the implications for U.S. politics moving forward? A panel of faculty members from the College of Media, Communication and Information will analyze this historic and controversial presidential campaign and will discuss how the discourse – by the public, in the media and in advertising – might shape future elections.
