Carlos Garcia, executive director of the University Memorial Center, has been named Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He will begin his new position on March 1.
Since 1997, Garcia has served as executive director and director of the UMC with more than 100 staff members and 300 student employees. In his role, Garcia led the creation of a student leadership program, expanded the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä NightRide program, created a marketing department, a student involvement and activities department, and a diversity training program.
Garcia also served on numerous committees and task forces including serving as liaison to the Interfraternity Council, as a reviewer for the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance, a reviewer for the Office of Student Conduct, and on the Student Affairs Facilities Operations Leadership Team.
In his new position, Garcia will have budget management responsibility for auxiliary and general fund departments and will supervise five directors responsible for campus operations that include retail services, Family Development Center, Housing and Residential Life, University Center, Ent Center for the Arts, Dining and Nutrition Services, Recreation Center and Student Health Services.
Before joining ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä-Boulder, Garcia was assistant, associate and director of Union Services and the University Housing System at the University of Texas at El Paso and manager of Union operations at the University of North Texas, Denton.
