The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently initiated an into the fire risks associated with hoverboards. In light of numerous fires associated with hoverboards and the actions being taken by major retailers and airlines, hoverboards are not permitted in ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä-Boulder residence halls or Graduate and Family Housing. The new policy took effect on Jan. 1.

Hoverboards are allowed on ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä-Boulder sidewalks, but are not allowed on any roadway except when crossing in a crosswalk (in Colorado hoverboards are considered "toy vehicles" and thus are not allowed on roadways). However, if there is an incident in which a person on a toy vehicle (this includes more than justÌýhoverboards) collides with a pedestrian on campus, the person on the toy vehicleÌýmay be cited under the municipal code for inattentive driving.

Residents may contact their residence hall director if they have any questions regarding residence hall policies.
