¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä-BoulderÂ’s Wellness Program for staff and faculty will present a free public Wellness Wednesday talk on April 9 by noted cancer researcher and Distinguished Professor David Prescott of biology.

Prescott will discuss skin cancer in a “mini medical school” talk at noon in the Student Recreation Center conference rooms 3 and 4. Attendees are welcome to bring brown-bag lunches.

An internationally recognized expert in cell biology and cancer research, Prescott has received awards from faculty colleagues and students for his teaching in the molecular, cellular and developmental biology department. He was named Distinguished Professor of Biology in 1980.

Free skin cancer screenings will be on April 8 from noon to 4 p.m. and April 23 from 9 a.m. to noon in Wardenburg Health Center. For appointments call 492-8885.

The May 14 Wellness Wednesday event will feature the third annual Poker Walk from noon to 1 p.m. beginning and ending outside the Student Recreation Center. Staff and faculty will walk or run to five designated campus locations to pick up a playing card. Those drawing the best five-card poker hands will win a prize.

A 20- to 30-minute ongoing walking program called Walking for Your Health is held on Monday and Wednesday at 7:05 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. The campus program began in February and welcomes new participants at any time. The walkers meet in front of Balch Fieldhouse by the buffalo statue to walk outdoors or inside the fieldhouse during bad weather.
