Colleagues and friends,
I’m pleased to present you with this collection of highlights fromÌýthe University of Colorado Boulder’s research and creative work inÌý2018–19.
This year’s stories—a cross-section of the trailblazing research,Ìýscholarship and creative work taking place across ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder—Ìýare as innovative and fascinating as ever. In the following pages,Ìýyou’ll learn about our contributions to the largest Central ArcticÌýexpedition ever, the first U.S. mission to return samples from anÌýasteroid to Earth, and new hope in the battle against antibiotic-resistantÌý“superbugs,†just to name a few.
And there’s another story that merits special attention this year.
I’m thrilled to announce that the university has again attracted aÌýrecord amount of research funding, this year drawing an incredibleÌý$631 million. This marks the third year in a row the university hasÌýattracted more than half a billion dollars in research funding andÌýrepresents a 23 percent increase over the previous year.
The story of this new research funding milestone wouldn’t beÌýcomplete without calling attention to the people who make it allÌýhappen. From our globally renowned geosciences faculty andÌýour Nobel laureates in the physical sciences, to our graduateÌýstudentsÌýin aerospace engineering and the arts, our faculty,Ìýstaff and students are the fuel that powers everything weÌýaccomplish together.
Here’s to another year of discovery, invention and collaborationÌýto change our world for the better.
I hope you enjoy these stories.
Warm regards,
Terri Fiez
