Financial Benefits of Becoming a Colorado Resident (Targeted Message) /registrar/2021/05/19/summer-2021-veteran-residency Financial Benefits of Becoming a Colorado Resident (Targeted Message) Anonymous (not verified) Wed, 05/19/2021 - 15:19 Tags: Residency Spring 2021 Student Announcements Targeted Office of the Registrar Who Received This Email? We sent this email at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, to first-semester summer students who were approved for in-state tuition under the domicile exception for honorably discharged veterans.

Dear [first],

Congratulations on being approved for in-state tuition as an honorably discharged veteran. We want to thank you for your service and provide some information about the potential benefits of becoming a Colorado resident for tuition purposes.

Financial Benefits of Becoming a Resident

As an honorably discharged veteran, you'll be assessed the in-state tuition rate as long as you're at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder. However, if you act now to become a full Colorado resident and you apply for 2021–22 financial aid, you'll be considered for additional aid next school year.

Colorado residents are considered for state and ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder grants, which may significantly increase your financial aid offer.

Your Next Steps to Petition for a Residency Change

Step 1: Submit Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

If you do intend to become a Colorado resident and you haven't done so already, submit your and any requested documentation. The FAFSA is available beginning Oct. 1 each year for the upcoming school year. See tips on completing the FAFSA.

Step 2: Take Action to Establish Colorado Domicile

The clock started ticking to establish Colorado domicile when you physically moved to the state. To prove your intent to make Colorado your one, true, fixed and permanent home, you're required to:

  • Get a Colorado driver's license within 120 days of moving to the state.
  • Register your vehicle (if you have one) in Colorado within 180 days of moving to the state to avoid penalties.
  • Establish additional Colorado ties by, for example, registering to vote in Colorado, paying Colorado income taxes and finding employment in Colorado.

Visit our adult residency page to learn more.

Step 3: Submit a Residency Petition

Use our residency calendars to determine the first semester for which you'd qualify for in-state residency. Once petitions open for that term, submit your residency petition with all required documentation to the Office of the Registrar by the posted deadline.

We sent this email at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021, to students who were on a waitlist for one or more Spring 2021 8-Wk Session 2 classes.

Dear [first],

You're still on a class waitlist for 8-Wk Session 2, which begins next Wednesday, March 10, 2021. If you don't see this class on , make sure the waitlist toggle is turned on.

While you're on the waitlist:

  • Because you aren't enrolled in the class yet, you won't be charged tuition for it and it won't count toward your enrollment status (e.g., full time, half time).
  • You will, however, appear on the class roster and have access to the online class materials until waitlists are canceled.
  • If you're retaking the course for grade replacement, we won't process your until you're enrolled.

On the First Day of Class

Hybrid In-Person Classes

You should receive guidance from the instructor on what to do if you're still waitlisted on the first day of class. If you don't, we encourage you to email the instructor, but do not attend in-person class. Instructional spaces have been evaluated for the maximum number of students they can hold while maintaining safety and physical distancing.

Remote & Hybrid Remote/Online Classes

Attend the first remote class meeting and tell the instructor you're on the waitlist. They may be able to advise you on your chances of being enrolled from the waitlist and whether you should continue to attend the class meetings.

What Happens Next

If a seat becomes available in your waitlisted class before 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, the next eligible waitlisted student will be enrolled automatically and will receive an email confirmation within 24 hours.

On Friday, March 12, waitlists are canceled. If you still aren't enrolled, you'll lose access to the class's online materials and be removed from the class roster. However, you may be eligible to use course reservation the next time that course is offered to guarantee yourself a seat.
