Joan Gabriele
Director, Undergraduate Enrichment Programs

An east coast transplant, Joan has been at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä since 1987, first as a graduate student and teacher of writing and literature, then as the SASC writing coordinator, and now as program director. As Director of UEP she oversees programming and support for Boettcher, Daniels and Norlin Scholars. Calling herself an "advocoachator" (advocate/coach/educator/mentor) her work has crystalized into the key areas of human development, personal narrative and contemplative education. She's particularly interested in the ways contemplative and inquiry-based practices such as Laura Rendón's transformative concept "sentipensante" (sensing/thinking) can make our campus more welcoming and inclusive. She finds joy in supporting students' whole selves as they develop into emerging scholars and professionals, and feels fortunate to work with an exceptional team that values creating and sustaining a healthy and balanced environment.
