Prospective Graduate Students

graduate student conducting

Graduate programs in music education provide ongoing professional education for music teachers and prepare individuals for new careers in elementary/secondary schools or higher education. Degree requirements for the PhD in Music Education, summer Master's in Music Education and academic year Master's in Music Education are structured to emphasize the development of both practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Students select a minor area of study in music that further cultivates personal musicianship. The music education faculty draws upon extensive experience as public school teachers, clinicians, conductors, performers, researchers, and professional leaders in providing graduate students with an educational experience that is both rigorous and relevant.

Graduate Assistantships are available.

"¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä's program reframed my philosophies of teaching music in schools. I now understand how to provide a comprehensive, holistic education to my students. I use skills developed in the graduate research and assessment courses daily in my teaching and everyday life." - Julie, MME

"The music education graduate program at ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder is unique because it provides numerous mentoring opportunities, from teaching methods classes, to mentoring undergraduate students on teaching lessons in local schools, to coaching preservice teachers in conducting middle school ensemble rehearsals. The music ed professors understand the importance of developing our craft by helping the next generation of our field become prepared music educators." - Megan, MME

“The ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä summer master’s program was the ideal way for me to continue my professional education. It combined the rigor of a full-time graduate program with the practicality of part-time study. There were many opportunities to work closely with faculty, and I was able to explore a variety of topics of interest in the flexible elective options." - Phil, MME
