Procedures for setting up graduate student appointments for the summer term differ slightly from the academic year.Ìý Therefore, we thought it would be helpful to provide clarification on policies that are unique to summer appointments.Ìý
Things to remember when setting up graduate student summer appointments:
- All appointments must be set up using a different position number from the academic year appointment.Ìý Position numbers from previous summers can be reused.
- All Graduate Part Time Instructors and Teaching Assistants will be paid on a contract basis according to summer session dates.Ìý Please see the summer session payment memo for instructions on how to do this.
- Summer session student faculty doing research (Graduate Research Assistants) are paid on a contract basis – full summer contract runs 5/16/21-8/14/21.
- Students are not required to be enrolled during the summer to hold an appointment.Ìý However, they will be subject to if they are not enrolled.
- Students may hold up to 100% appointments during the summer without special permission.
- Tuition remission should be entered in ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä-SIS.Ìý Step by step instructions are available on the Bursar’s website at: /bursar-campus-resources/tuition-remission/entering-new-rata-waiver
- Please pay attention to bill due dates to ensure that tuition remission entries are entered before the due dates.Ìý Information on bill due dates is available on the Bursar’s web site: .
- Students holding a GA or RA appointment during the summer session must be employed a minimum of five weeks to be eligible to receive a tuition remission benefit. Â Â Students with a GPTI or TA appointment are required to be employed for a full term during summer session to qualify for a tuition remission benefit. Summer session is divided into six terms: Term M (Maymester), A, B, C, D, E/F and Augmester. Â
- As opposed to the academic year, a student can receive tuition remission for a term other than the one that they are on appointment, (i.e. student works during term A and receives remission during term B). However, the tuition remission must be used during the summer and is not transferable to an AY term.
