Hello,
You are being sent this message to outline a recent change in your appointment with the University. Administrative Policy Statement 5054 (), has been updated effective 3/1/2023 to distinguish the hire and guidance of working retirees from regular employees. Part of this update includes creating consistency with the hire and job classification of employees who have retired from the University and are likely receiving retiree medical benefits.
To comply with this APS update, ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder HR worked with Employee Services to review a list of employees coded as retirees but who are working in active jobs. Everyone on this list continuing to work for the University has been updated to one of our new working retiree job codes.
Working retirees are not intended to be viewed or coded as regular leave-accruing employees as this may impact their eligibility for retiree benefits. Working retiree appointments are viewed as temporary and therefore are not eligible to accrue leave in the same way. Working retiree appointments do not accrue vacation leave but will accrue sick leave in accordance with .
Regent Policy 11.E
(E) All other Paid Employees (including non-contract temporary and student hourly employees)
- Other employees paid monthly or hourly are eligible to accrue 0.034 hours of sick leave for every hour worked. Accrual begins on the first day of eligible appointment. An eligible employee who works part-time (less than 100%) accrues sick leave on a prorated basis. Employees on leave without pay, except for military leave without pay and furloughs, do not accrue sick leave.
- Accrual may not exceed six (6) days (48 hours) on July 1 of every year.
- Up to six (6) days (48 hours) of accrued sick leave may be carried over from year to year. C.R.S. § 8-13.3-403(3)(b).
- Compensation. No compensation for unused sick leave shall be paid upon separation from the university.
It has come to our attention that you may not have been notified of the impact of this update in APS, though your appointment has already been updated. If you had accrued any vacation time between the time of your retirement and the time of the update, you should have been contacted to confirm a final payout of any accrued vacation leave. If this did not occur, please work with your department to assess your appointment, and leave.
Note: The fringe rate for working retiree appointments is 15%. Please use this information as needed to make any adjustments to any funding conversations.
Thank you for your patience during this transition.
Best,
¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder HR
