Ìý Professor Lawrence-Sanders is on leave for the 2023-2024 academic year
ÌýProfessor Lawrence-Sanders specializes in African American history.
Professor Lawrence-Sanders teaches courses in U.S. history,Ìý African American history, and African American women's history with particular focus on American Civil War memory, Black cultural history, Black radicalism, and collective memory in the United States.
Professor Lawrence-Sanders received her B.A. from Wake Forest University, her M.A. from Columbia University and her Ph.D. from Rutgers University.Ìý Her current book project, "They Knew What the War Was ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä: African Americans and the Memory of the Civil War" explores Black Americans’ long engagement with the legacy of the Civil War and the myths of the "Lost Cause."
Ìý ÌýProfessor Lawrence-Sanders is not currently accepting M.A. and PhD students, but is happy to serve on graduate dissertation committees related to African American history or 19th and 20th Century United States history.Ìý
