It’s a great time to examine your Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions and make any adjustments ahead of 2025.

HSA benefits

As a �� Health Plan — High Deductible member, your HSA is an important tool in planning for future health care needs. Maintaining an HSA allows you to reduce your tax liability by saving pre-tax money to be spent on eligible medical expenses.

You can even earn interest on your savings with optional investments. And all of it is yours until the money is needed — even if you leave the university.

Update contributions

You can update your HSA contributions through the employee portal anytime between now and 5 p.m. (MST) Friday, Dec. 6. Your changes will be effective Jan. 1, 2025.

While you can adjust contributions at any time, Employee Services recommends reviewing and updating your HSA contributions each year as contribution limits change.

Contribution limits for 2025:

Individual - $4,300
Individual - (age 55 or older) - $5,300
Family - $8,550
Family (age 55 or older) - $9,550

Please note: You may not contribute to an HSA if enrolled in any part of Medicare, including A, B or D. To learn more, please visit Optum’s HSA and Medicare page.

Taking advantage of the open enrollment period allows you to:

Make easy changes in the employee portal instead of submitting paperwork.
Implement your desired changes at the start of the new year.
Evenly distribute contributions across the calendar year.

Visit the HSA website and use resources to determine your monthly contributions.

Between the end of the fall semester and the beginning of the holiday season, this time of year can feel busy for many of us. Balancing physical activity and restorative practices, like meditation, can help you calm your mind, relax your body and stay grounded.

To help achieve this balance, we invite you to participate in the Mind Body Challenge through WorkWell Connect. You can earn Wellable Points for tracking physical activity and completing short Guided Meditation Sessions from Nov. 18 through Dec. 15.

Quick steps

Step 1: Claim your account at https://cuboulder.wellable.co

Step 2: Download the Wellable app for Apple (AppStore) or Android (Google Play)

Step 3: When you sign into the app, don't type in the username/password on the first screen; be sure to tap the Azure AD button to link your IdentiKey and Password to the app.

Step 4: You can connect the Wellable app to your Apple Health (activity/steps tracker) app to automatically receive points in the challenge. There are also options to connect to other workout tracking apps (Fitbit/Strava/etc.) through the "Connections" tab within the app.

Participate in the Mind/Body Challenge through December 15 for rewards and prizes!

The new year is fast approaching, which means tax season is just around the corner. Before the year ends, verify that your personal information and pay is accurate now to ensure a worry-free tax season.

Important tasks for year-end payroll

Review and update your mailing address in the employee portal by Dec. 15 to ensure you receive your W-2 and/or 1042-S forms.
Verify your Social Security number.

Review your W-4 and double-check your tax withholdings with the IRS Withholding Estimator. Reminder for international employees: You should not make changes to your W-4 without first consulting an international tax specialist.

The user group is a great place to find new ways of using apps, sharing innovative ideas, and making work easier and more fun. Whether you're a newbie or a pro, there's something here for you to explore and enjoy.

What to expect from the Microsoft 365 User Group

A Supportive Community: At its core, the Microsoft 365 user group fosters a sense of community providing a forum for sharing experiences, troubleshooting issues, and celebrating successes.

Seamless Collaboration: One of the primary benefits of the Microsoft 365 user group is its ability to enhance collaboration across the �� Boulder community. Tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive facilitate real-time communication and document sharing campuswide enabling seamless collaboration.

Ideas for Streamlining Administrative Processes: Administrative efficiency is crucial in any organization, where managing schedules, resources, and communications can be complex. The user group can provide knowledge, resources and support to ensure that tools like Outlook, Teams, and Power Automate are utilized to their full potential.

Productivity and Learning: Microsoft 365’s suite of applications offers innovative ways to enhance productivity and learning. Members can create interactive content, conduct assessments, and engage through diverse multimedia formats. The user group serves as a platform for sharing innovative strategies and technological integration, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Ensuring Security and Compliance: With increasing concerns about data security and regulatory compliance, the user group is a great place to go for guidance on utilizing Microsoft’s advanced security features, safeguarding sensitive information, and maintaining integrity.

Professional Development: Join the biweekly discussion and demo sessions online or in person every Thursday. These sessions are tailored to the needs of our community and cover a variety of topics. Recent demos include an overview of Microsoft Power Apps, information about Microsoft’s Copilot AI, task management tools and some of OIT’s tips and tricks for getting the most out of email and calendars.

Get Involved

Join the Microsoft 365 user group in Microsoft Teams.
Once you have joined the team, set notifications on the Teams channel related to topics you are especially interested in.
Attend the biweekly Microsoft 365 demo and discussion series held on Thursdays from 12-1:00 PM in Teams or in-person at the EH&S conference room (Environmental Health & Safety Center, 1000 Regent Dr. 2nd floor, room 220).
Can’t attend the demo? Each session is recorded so you can catch up later! The recording and presentation can be accessed through the Team or on the Microsoft 365 SharePoint page.

In an effort to make the day enjoyable for employees and their kids of all ages, we are seeking your collaboration! We would like to organize a list of activities offered throughout the day for our employees. We are also planning an end-of-day celebration in the afternoon. Please let us know if your unit would like to participate by providing activities, tours, admission, etc., or if you would like a table at the afternoon event. We realize there is a decent amount of time before this event and hope that getting the word out early will help units plan a way to be involved and make it a great day! The holidays are a time for compassion and generosity, and one meaningful way to show care for others is by donating blood. �� Boulder Staff Council and longtime partner Vitalant are excited to announce an upcoming blood drive! Each donation can save up to three lives, making a direct impact on individuals in our community facing medical emergencies, surgeries, or chronic illnesses. Let’s come together to share the gift of life this season, turning our goodwill into action.

Why: Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Donating blood is a selfless and impactful act of kindness, and each donation can save up to three different lives. Hospitals in the area and medical facilities rely on voluntary blood donors to provide a steady blood supply for medical procedures, surgeries, and emergencies.

We are committed to achieving our blood drive goals, and Staff Council is confident that the �� Boulder community will rise to the occasion. With your support and participation, we can surpass our December goal of sixty units per day and make a remarkable impact with each donation.

How to prepare:

Review eligibility criteria: Donor Eligibility
Eat a healthy meal and stay hydrated before your donation appointment.
Bring a valid photo ID.
Try and get a good night’s sleep the day before.

Staff Council is committed to inclusivity and understands that some may not be eligible to donate. We invite all to be involved in other ways. For more information about volunteering at our events, please contact Staff Council.
