Jack Burns, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus in the Ìýand Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics, both at the , and is Vice President Emeritus for Academic Affairs and Research for the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä System.Ìý

Also, Jack was recently the Principal Investigator of the NASA-fundedÌý. In addition, heÌýhas longstanding ties with andÌýserved on the NASA Advisory Council from 2008-2010, Chair of the Council’s Science Committee fromÌý2009-2010,ÌýandÌýasÌýa member of the 2016-2017ÌýPresidential NASA transition team.ÌýAdditionally, Jack served as the Senior Vice President of the from 2014-2017 and is Acting Treasurer of the AAS for 2024.

His research focuses on extragalactic astronomy and cosmology; observations of active galaxies and galaxy clusters using radio interferometers, optical telescopes, and x-ray satellites; supercomputer numerical simulations of astrophysical jets and large scale structures in the universe; and, the design of low frequency radio telescopesÌýon the Moon.Ìý
