- Lab manager Dorothy Noble received the Challenge Coin Award from Boulder’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety, in recognition for her attention to safety, regulations and personal protective equipment (PPE) in all environmental engineering labs, while also being exceptional at day-to-day lab operations.

- A team of researchers led by Professor Evan Thomas, director of the Mortenson Center in Global Engineering, has been awarded a three-year, $660,000 grant by NASA to join the SERVIR Applied Sciences Team, a joint venture between NASA and the U.S. Agency for International Development.

- Marina Vance, an environmental engineer at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and her team carried out a study in a manufactured house in Austin, Texas, that examined particulate matter, volatile organic compounds, microbes and other materials. The researchers looked at how cooking, cleaning, human occupancy and use of personal care products affected air quality.
