Campus Security Authorities (CSA)

Who They Are

By the function of their role, aÌýCampus Security Authority (CSA) are University Official(s)Ìý(Student Leader, Employee, Affiliated Contractor, etc.) recognized by the Department of Education and designated by ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder,Ìýthat are federally required under the Clery Act to report all crimes to the University that are reported to them. You may be designated as a CSA if any of the functions of your roleÌýfall under one of these categories:

  1. All members of ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder Police (¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäPD) andÌýResidential Security Officers (RSOs)
  2. Individuals responsible forÌýcampus security, includingÌýstudent and professionalÌýemployees, as well as any contracted security personnel
  3. Officials of the institution withÌýsignificant responsibility forÌýstudent and campus activities
  4. Offices of which are the preferred receivers of reports (i.e., ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉäPD, OIEC, SCCR)

If you have not been notified that you areÌýa CSA and you believe that you may fall under one of the above categories, please reach out to theÌýClery Compliance Officer.

Some specific units and employees on campus are NOT designated as a CSA by the nature of their role and function of responsibilities. Some of those units include: Office of Victim Assistance, Counseling and Psychiatric Services, Faculty & Staff Assistance Program, Etc.


What They Do

All CSAs are required to report Clery Act crimes that are reported to them. These individuals are understood to be trusted contacts at the University and have an obligation to report these crimes, so the University can offer support, resources, issue timely warnings and emergency notifications, as well as publish an Annual Security & Fire Safety Report to our campus community and interested public.

¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Sponsored Travel Reporting

Under the regulations of the Clery Act, if any students and/or employees are traveling for officially recognized ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder purposes, they may need to report their travel for Clery Act Compliance. Sponsored travel that may need to be reported includes:

  • Repeated travel/stays to a location
  • Overnight stays amounting to more than 1 night
  • Short stay away trips, including certain education abroad travel
  • Any trip where a written agreement is in place to control any given property for a set amount of time
