Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Search

The provost is the lead academic officer of the university and reports to the chancellor. The provost works in collaboration with the faculty, university officers, unit heads, faculty governance representatives, and the staff to articulate and achieve the university’s strategic mission and goals, with the focus on providing the highest quality education experience to students, engaging in the production of knowledge, and advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.

Committee members

The deadline for nominations and self-nominations for the search committee was Friday, Oct. 18, 2024.

The committee’s role is to generate a strong pool of candidates and advise the chancellor of those candidates best qualified to meet the needs of the Office of Academic Affairs and the university.Ìý

According to regent policy, the provost/executive vice chancellor for academic affairs search committee should consist of four faculty members, one student, one staff member, and one alumnus/a, so nominations and self-nominations should fit these categories. The chancellor may increase the committee’s size and representation at his discretion.Ìý

The advisory search committee shall recommend to the chancellor unranked finalists who are well qualified for the appointment to the position of provost of ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder. Committee members shall hold the best interests of the campus ahead of their home unit or constituent group. Committee members are accountable to the committee only and are not responsible to any other group for their deliberations.

  • October: Search advisory committee selected
  • November: Executive search firm holds listening sessions with stakeholder groups
  • November: Executive search firm launches national search
  • November: Executive search firm accepts nominations for provost candidates 
  • December: Search advisory committee review
  • January: Search advisory committee conducts remote interviews with semi-finalists and presents its finalist recommendations to the chancellor 
  • Spring 2025: Provost finalists invited to campus
  • July 1, 2025: New provost in position
