Professor named 2018 fellow of the American Geophysical Union
Balaji Rajagopalan, professor and chair of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, has been elected to the .
According to the AGU, fellows are recognized for their scientific eminence in the Earth and space sciences. Only 0.1% of AGU membership are selected as fellows in any given year.
Rajagopalan said he was especially honored to be recognized with Steve Monzka, a fellow researcher at the , and David Tarboton from Utah State University, his alma mater.
“David was on my PhD dissertation committee, and we co-authored several papers,” Rajagopalan said. “In fact, my first paper ever was co-authored with him, which was an outcome of a project from his class on fractals that I took. It is a distinct honor!”
Rajagoapalan has been a faculty member at Boulder since 2000. His research focuses on enabling sustainable water quantity and quality under increasing climate variability and change.
