The Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is pleased to host the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs (MCAA), September 29 – October 1, 2023. MCAA 2023 will consist of IN-PERSON sessions only. All speakers must be present at the in-person session during the scheduled time.

We welcome proposals for panels, roundtables, and individual papers from all disciplines focusing on China and Inner Asia, Northeast Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Asian Diaspora as well as comparative, inter-Asian, and global Asia topics. We also welcome scholars and students from all regions. Faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students (presenting on separate junior scholar panels), as well as independent scholars, are encouraged to share their work, receive feedback, and network at the conference.

Please submit the proposal using the  (word count limit: individual paper - 250 words; panel/roundtable – 350 words). Proposals are due May 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. CT. Reviews of proposals will begin immediately after the deadline and you will be contacted about the results by May 31, 2023. The MCAA also awards a number of student prizes at the graduate and undergraduate levels ().
