Join us for a week long adventure and explore technologies that help facilitate active learning, discussions, group work, feedback, and creating effective presentations. Each day we’ll cover a different pedagogical aspect and provide you with tools that can help facilitate this process.

Monday, May 16, 2016: Active Learning

We know that when students experience a much richer and satisfying learning experience when they engage with course content, participate in discussions, and collaborate with peers.  As a result, students learn more when they’re engaging in the learning process of learning.  For this session, we’ll look at tools such as padlet, todaysmeet, and kahoot that can help engage students in and out of the classroom.

Tuesday, May 17, 2016: Discussion Tools

While great conversations are easy to facilitate in the classroom, it can be challenging to facilitate an online discussion.  In this session we’ll look at a number of tools that can help you facilitate discussions outside of the classroom, promote student to student communication between students, and have students interact with you and their peers through the course content.

Wednesday, May 18, 2016: Group work Tools

When it comes to group work, students either love it or want nothing to do with peers.   Group work is a common activity for many courses and we know that when implemented with evidenced-based principles, these activities can provide a much richer and engaging experience for learners. In this session, we’ll look at tools that can alleviate time and space constraints, facilitate communication, collaboration, support peer evaluation, and even help with forming balanced groups.

Thursday, May 19, 2016: Tools for Providing Feedback

We know feedback is an integral part of teaching and learning. It can be one of the most powerful ways to enhance and strengthen student learning. In this session, we’ll discuss strategies around providing feedback as well as tools you can use.  

Friday, May 20, 2016: Effective Presentation Tools

In the age of memes, soundbites and information onslaught, how do you get your content and data noticed? A few basic presentation and design principles can help you create eye catching images, slides and infographics. In this session, we’ll introduce you to several online presentation tools that you can use to create impactful messages that stand out.
