ASSETT Seeks Educational Data Analyst

¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä the Position

The Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology (ASSETT) team, a unit supporting the College of Arts and Sciences within the Office of Information Technology (OIT), is hiring a graduate assistant beginning in the Fall 2019 semester. The assistant will help design and conduct applied research to support teaching and learning with technology on campus. This position reports to the Educational Technology Researcher, and will work closely with faculty and other team members. This is a fully-funded Graduate Assistantship for the 2019-2020 academic year (or Fall term only), including tuition remission and a 0.4 FTE (50%) appointment at the Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) rate. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess university needs surrounding academic technology by assisting with development, distribution, analysis, and reporting of large-scale survey data.
  • Collect, visualize, and analyze classroom observation data for faculty; identify impactful teaching and learning questions that could be answered with data; conduct analyses to answer these questions; share and report findings to campus stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain an organized technical infrastructure that allows for collection, storage, transformation, and analysis of data in accordance with data privacy protocols.
  • Advance key campus initiatives related to supporting and improving teaching and learning, specifically through the application of learning sciences.
  • Assist with the development of a new learning analytics service.
  • Extract meaningful insights that help improve the student experience through data-informed decision making.

Qualifications

  • Strong research design, implementation, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) theories and best practices in the fields of data analytics and applied learning sciences.
  • Experience with data visualization software: R (preferred), Tableau, Excel, or Google Sheets.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
  • Excellent verbal, organizational, decision-making, and written communication skills.
