Ensure you have the proper tools and resources.

A strong wireless internet connection and a computer are important for your virtual interview. ÌýWhile you can conduct a virtual interview from your phone or tablet, mobile versions of virtual platforms can function differently and present less professionally. Additionally, if you get notifications on your phone during the interview, your video may pause or cut out.Ìý

Get familiar with potential platforms.

Common virtual platforms for an interview are Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Cisco's WebX. Make sure that you understand which platform your virtual interview will take place on—download the program ahead of timeÌýand test your camera and microphone to ensure audio is connected properly.Ìý

Secure a distraction-free and professional environment.

Find a quiet location with good lighting and limited distracting decorations. If this is not possible, consider utilizing a fake background during your interview, if the virtual platform allows. Communicate with others when your interview is taking placeÌýto eliminate potential interruptions. Eliminate distractions such as music or pets,Ìýand silence / mute notifications.Ìý
