Boyd discusses hypersonic weapons with Institution of Mechanical Engineers
Professor Iain Boyd was interviewed by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in a new article on the extreme challenges faced in developing hypersonic weapons.
Boyd, a professor in the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences, is also the director of the ¶¶ÒõÂÃÐÐÉä Boulder Center for National Security Initiatives. He is a leading researcher in hypersonic aerothermodynamics.
In the article, Boyd notes the difficulties in designing materials that can endure the high temperatures experienced during hypersonic flights and the challenges world governments face in tracking the weapons during flight.
